Course Information

Learning Outcomes

• We will cover most of the material presented in Chapters 1-3 and Chapter 7 of the text. Students are expected to master mathematical concepts and apply them to solve problems of first-order and higher-order linear ordinary differential equations based on the methods they learn in this class.

Homework and Quiz

• Homework will be assigned after each lecture, see HERE for the assignments. We do not plan to collect homework. But you are supposed to do them all. Remember: the more problems you do, the better you understand the material. The homework is not pledged. You are encouraged to discuss the problems. However, each student is responsible for the final preparation of his/her own homework papers.
• There will be approximately one quiz per week, in the final 15 minutes of the lecture. The quiz problems will be either the same as, or very similar to those from the homework. Thus, if a student has made a good attempt at the homework, he/she should do well on the quiz. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped from the final grade calculation.

Exams

• There will be two 75-minute in-class midterm exams and a 150-minute cumulative final exam. The tentative dates of the exams are listed as follows.

• Midterm 1	Tuesday, September 22th, in class.
  Midterm 2	Thursday, November 5th, in class.
  Final	Tuesday, December 8th, 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm, in class.

• Exams are under the honor code. Be sure and hand in all the work you do on each problem. Good luck!

Grades

• Your grade are distributed as below:

• Quizzes »	25% (drop lowest)
  Midterms »	20% each
  Final exam »	35%

• You can monitor your grades via Blackboard.
• The letter grade will be mapped by: 90+ A; 86+ B+; 80+ B; 76+ C+; 70+ C; 66+ D+; 60+ D; 60- F.
